“Oh yes, it’s ladies night and the feelings right. Oh yes it’s ladies night…Oh what a night.” That’s right ladies – tonight is your night. It is your night to celebrate the bride and all of her closest lady friends! Although I probably cannot say there will be an appearance by Kool and the Gang to get the party started. (It is probably for the best anyway – ha). However there are many options to jump-start your wedding adventures! Typing in ‘Bachelorette Parties in Grand Rapids’, definitely isn’t helpful at all. That is why I did some digging and came up with a list that I think everyone can like something from!

1. ‘Vegas’ Style

-Casinos are in close enough proximity that you could make a night out of it, or even stay at one for the weekend. Gambling, entertainment and food a plenty can be found at Michigan casinos. This can be a great way to keep everyone in one place to party until the wee hours of the morning!

2. The Sophisticated Lady

-Michigan is full of wineries, almost too many to choose from. Wherever you live, there is most likely a winery within a short drive if you want to check one out for the day. Or there are many options to take a weekend getaway and visit many wineries within close proximity to one another. To really let loose, check out a car service or tour bus to do the driving for your group!

-The same can be said for visiting breweries, if you like a little more hops in your drink than grapes. Breweries are popping up everywhere with websites dedicated to help you figure out some great beer paths to follow as well as designated drivers too!

3. The Artsy Fartsy

-Group painting classes are becoming more and more popular. They are a great way to do something together with your friends, as well as bring home a memory from the event. Take it up a notch and see if you can BYOB. Some of the events even have their own wine to share with the participants.

4. Spicing It Up!

-Grab your girls and head over to Flirt Fitness. They offer private parties that can come with pole dancing lessons, lap dances, strip teases or a combination of all.

-A great way to finish a pole dancing party is to host a party with all the great outfits to wear with your news moves you just learned. Scotta Intimates is a lingerie brand that allows you to host a party (more details to come next month). Take it a step further and add some Pure Romance toys into the mix to really take care of all assets of the wedding night!

5. The Lavender Nose

-Every woman, whether she has had one or not, loves a massage, a facial, a sugar scrub, and relaxation. A great way to celebrate the bride and her best ladies is a trip the spa. This can also be a great way for the bride, her maid or honor, her mother and mother to be, as an extra special thank you with memories or just being together and enjoying one another.41015 102 6 Ideas For Your Next Bachelorette Party

6. The Laid Back Lady

-Grab your girls and have a night in with movies, games, drinks and food.

-Get dropped off in an area where there are many different bars to choose from that you can hop around to (Downtown, East town, Westside, etc)

-A picnic in the park.

-And any other ideas the bride or the bridal party may have. Just remember the day is about celebration and enjoying your best gals!

I’m just going to go ahead and get this out of the way….It was 90+ degrees.  It’s been over a week and I still can’t get over the heat factor and now it’s been in the low 90’s since I’ve been home.  It seems as though the heat from Georgia has followed and its here to stay.  Alright, enough about the heat already!

Over a week ago, I went to Dahlogena, GA to photograph Melissa and John’s wedding at Blackstock Winery located on a massive hill-top overlooking a beautiful mountainous landscape.  What I love about weekend weddings is I had the opportunity to meet Melissa and John’s family and get to know everyone a little better.  Let me tell you, they really are a great group of people, especially, Melissa’s 5-year-old niece, Riley, who became my new BFF.  The weekend began at Melissa and John’s home with a little BBQ of about 30 close friends and relatives who all seem to be from out-of-town all the way from New Jersey, Florida, Indiana, and it goes on.  It was a great introductory of who everyone was and how they know John and Melissa, many of whom knew them from college and work.  The next day was an hour and a half trek north from Actworth into a quaint little town called Dahlogena.  Now for those of you have never been there, I would say it’s quite comparable to Mackinac Island but the town sits in a circle.  If you are not familiar with Mackinac Island, then the best way to describe Dahlogena is that’s a tiny little town with cute little shops and restaurants to pop in and out at.

There were so many special little things about John and Melissa’s wedding.  Melissa had put together (if not her, then close family members) almost every detail of the ceremony and reception.  During the ceremony, Melissa’s brother, Scott, became the “surprise” officiant, while his wife , Devan,  did a small reading.  This wedding was so intimate with so many personal details that encouraged more of the love they have for each other especially when family and friends were their to love with them.  And what I love about John and Melissa is not only watching the things they would do for each other (ex. Melissa bought John a “Fender” guitar as a wedding gift and John smiled for the camera) but they have such a great sense of humor and it was easy to laugh with them.  They also both had a sense of being adventurous.  They were willing to try different things.

Melissa and John, I had an amazing weekend with you guys and your families.  I loved coming to your home and going to Dahlogena.  It really was a beautiful town and I look forward in seeing you guys again!!  My most best of wishes to you both!!!

I know.  I know.  I’m a little behind with the blogging but nonetheless, I am blogging.   That’s right.  I’m taking you back to the 10th of October where it began at the quaint little Olivet Reformed Church where Katie was oh so anxiously waiting to see her husband to be.  She looked so lovely in her beautiful gown.

Before the ceremony, they wanted to meet each other in the chapel.  As Katie approached with emotion to her soon to be husband, Corey, was smiling from ear to ear at how beautiful Katie looked that day.  Shortly after, their daughters Zooey and Riley  joined Mom and Dad in the room.  What a beautiful family!  And what a fun family.  They were laughing and snuggling with each other.

When the ceremony began, Zooey, couldn’t be without her mom, so Katie graciously held on to her darling little flower girl as she walked down the aisle and throughout the entire ceremony.  It certainly didn’t stop Katie and Corey exchanging their vows.

Afterwards, the newlyweds headed over to Wedgewood Park for some outdoor shots.   The colorful trees was a beautiful backdrop as the bride and groom snuggled closely in the cold outdoors.  Then it was  a quick trip to the reception where the real party began.  They had party horns for the guests while the bridal party entered the room with there glow in the dark glasses and their glow in the dark bracelets and necklaces.  It truly was  a fun loving day for Katie and Corey and I was so blessed to be a part of it.  Congratulations to you both!!

I have known the Burke Family since I was 9 years old.  Kitty, Megan, and I used to play in their basement and build little forts in the corners of the room.

As a child, life was pretty upbeat because we were together almost all of the time.  Since then we’ve all graduated from the same high school and moved on living our lives.

So I was honored when Megan asked me to photograph her wedding to the man in her life, Greg.  This guy is so nice and I can see why Megan would want to spend the rest of her life with him.

The ceremony began at Zion Reformed Church in Grandville.  On my way there, I actually thought it might rain for a minute but it cleared right up and the day was as beautiful as it could be.

Megan was given away by her brother, Joe.  This kept the water welled up in my eyes because I know how much their Father meant to them and how close they all were to him.   I understood the feeling of him not being able to be there.

After the ceremony, the bridal party headed down to One Trick Pony to get the party started and shortly afterwards toward the Masonic Temple where the reception was held.

What was nice about knowing the Burke family my whole life is that we all graduated from the same high school together, so I had a chance to see alot of old and familiar faces and catch up with people I had not seen years.

Sort of like a high school reunion, if you will, since I missed out on my 10 year reunion this year.
