My last wedding of the year began in Marquette, MI.  My first time as a visitor in Marquette, MI found myself enjoying the beautiful drive and city off of Lake Superior.  Ashley and Jeff’s day began at First United Methodist Church, where, at arrival, Ashley was just getting in her gorgeous dress.  Jeff on the other hand was dressed and ready to get the show on the road.  Him and his groomsmen were finding plenty of ways to entertain themselves as they waited for the ceremony to begin.

Shortly after the ceremony Ashley and Jeff had limo service that drove them around through Marquette.  We went to one of the beautiful docks in town and then to the oh so scenic Presque Isle Park. We  got to hang out on cliffs overlooking Lake Superior and being entertained by the bridal, particularly the groomsmen.  icon smile Weddings: Ashley and Jeff 11 6 10  The night ended at Upfront & Co.  located in downtown Marquette where the party kept going.

Ashley  and Jeff, your family is beautiful and your wedding day was fun and gorgeous.  I am so honored to have been a part of it.  Congratulations to you and your family!!! xoxo

This beautiful fall wedding takes place at Tamaron Country Club in Toledo, OH.  I have to say Andrea is one of the most organized brides I have ever met.  When I met with Andrea and Ron over a year and a half ago, she had pretty much had every thing set, venue, cake, gown, and all she needed to do was find her bridesmaids dresses.  Really, I was super impressed on how ahead of schedule she was with her wedding planning, if only I possessed such great talents.

The ceremony took place inside the country club and was shortly followed with the reception inside as well.  The weather had been was absolutely ideal for some outdoor photos, where Califf was able to snatch up some golf carts and we could go to another location on the golf course.  I very dangerously sat on the bridesmaid’s lap as we cruised off into more of the golf course.  What can I say…I’m a rebel.  Actually, not so much.  I was scared for my life as I thought that there was no doubt that I was going to fall out of the golf cart, head first with two cameras strapped around my neck.  What was I thinking?!  It really just makes for a good story and the bridal party  in tag kept things entertaining.

What I love about this party is that everyone works at the veterinary office where I take all three of my boys (2 dogs and cat) to.  So it was great to see so many familiar faces at Ron and Andrea’s party.

Andrea and Ron it was a pleasure to be a part of your very special day.  You guys are so sweet and I wish the best for the both of you!!  Congratulations! xoxo

As a photographer in the past few years, I have become a huge fan of Traverse City.  It only was up until 3 years ago, I had my first visit to Northern Michigan’s infamous wine country.  And it was only up until a few months ago I had my first visit to Old Mission Peninsula where the wedding ceremony of Katie and Mark was held.  The scenic drive is amazing as you get to see both bays and at the end of the road is a lighthouse where you can walk around on the beach and take in the beautiful waterscape ahead of you.

Katie and Mark’s wedding was filled with their closest friends and family who traveled afar to attend their celebration.  And the day began at St. Joseph Catholic Church where everyone was scurrying to get ready and make sure the chapel was beautifully decorated.  One of my favorite things about this wedding was Katie’s gown.  It’s very possible that it was one of my favorites of the year.  Made with burnt-out silk and immaculately detailed, it gave the dress a lacy vintage look and it looked absolutely chic on Katie.  Along with Katie’s down-to-earth personality, she completed her gown with a pair of white cowboy boots.  Of course she looked absolutely amazing.  Shortly after the ceremony, the bridal party rendezvoused at Bowers Harbor Winery, a darling vineyard that barely overlooked Traverse City’s West Bay.  Everyone had a moment to have a couple of glasses of wine and really take in the day, which certainly set the mood for the rest of the evening.

It  truly was amazing how sweet and tender Mark really is.  I can see how he is such a lovable guy around anyone.  I also see why Katie and him are a fantastic pair.  Katie’s vivacious personality is fun and kind, which makes her so easy to be around, coupled with Mark’s laid back and mild-mannered personality kind of reminds me a moth to a flame.

The reception was the most sentimental part of the evening.  The quaintness of Northport Bay Retreat was an amazing setting for friends and family to be snuggled together with an amazing view of West Bay in the background.  So many wonderful things was said to the newly married couple that there wasn’t one dry eye underneath the tent that evening.  So much of that hit home for me and I’m so grateful I had a camera in front of my face because I too was an emotional wreck.

Katie and Mark,  it was an honor to have been a part of such a beautiful day.  You both are a beautiful couple that will accomplish amazing things!  Congratulations to you both!!!

I’m just going to go ahead and get this out of the way….It was 90+ degrees.  It’s been over a week and I still can’t get over the heat factor and now it’s been in the low 90’s since I’ve been home.  It seems as though the heat from Georgia has followed and its here to stay.  Alright, enough about the heat already!

Over a week ago, I went to Dahlogena, GA to photograph Melissa and John’s wedding at Blackstock Winery located on a massive hill-top overlooking a beautiful mountainous landscape.  What I love about weekend weddings is I had the opportunity to meet Melissa and John’s family and get to know everyone a little better.  Let me tell you, they really are a great group of people, especially, Melissa’s 5-year-old niece, Riley, who became my new BFF.  The weekend began at Melissa and John’s home with a little BBQ of about 30 close friends and relatives who all seem to be from out-of-town all the way from New Jersey, Florida, Indiana, and it goes on.  It was a great introductory of who everyone was and how they know John and Melissa, many of whom knew them from college and work.  The next day was an hour and a half trek north from Actworth into a quaint little town called Dahlogena.  Now for those of you have never been there, I would say it’s quite comparable to Mackinac Island but the town sits in a circle.  If you are not familiar with Mackinac Island, then the best way to describe Dahlogena is that’s a tiny little town with cute little shops and restaurants to pop in and out at.

There were so many special little things about John and Melissa’s wedding.  Melissa had put together (if not her, then close family members) almost every detail of the ceremony and reception.  During the ceremony, Melissa’s brother, Scott, became the “surprise” officiant, while his wife , Devan,  did a small reading.  This wedding was so intimate with so many personal details that encouraged more of the love they have for each other especially when family and friends were their to love with them.  And what I love about John and Melissa is not only watching the things they would do for each other (ex. Melissa bought John a “Fender” guitar as a wedding gift and John smiled for the camera) but they have such a great sense of humor and it was easy to laugh with them.  They also both had a sense of being adventurous.  They were willing to try different things.

Melissa and John, I had an amazing weekend with you guys and your families.  I loved coming to your home and going to Dahlogena.  It really was a beautiful town and I look forward in seeing you guys again!!  My most best of wishes to you both!!!

How would I begin this beautiful love story?  Maybe I’ll begin a month and a half ago, when I flew out to New York.  There was suppose to be a wedding, apparently.  A quaint little wedding for that matter, however the groom was in England.  The groom was supposed to have flown out 2 days before I arrived, but I guess you would say a natural disaster occurred.  A volcano erupted in Iceland and because of the eruption, volcanic ashes sifted the air, and because the ashes were sifting the air, flights were canceled.  They were canceled for almost a week, which in the chain of events, the wedding was canceled…for the time being.

Fast forward to May 31st, as I ‘m leaving Boston and an 1 hour and a 1/2  later, I’m back in New York.  For a brief moment I felt like I was in a scene from “Up In The Air” and then suddenly Jay-Z and Alicia Keys are belting out “Empire State of Mind” in my head…or maybe my iPod.  Either way, it felt good to be back and with certainty that a wedding will actually take place.  No volcanoes was going to stop this wedding this time.

The next day we’re in Manhattan at All Souls Church and the beautiful Heather was walking down the aisle and Theo waited patiently and handsomely for his bride’s arrival at the altar.  I think it’s obvious to say that Theo and Heather are an adventurous couple.  As a matter of fact, before I arrived in New York, Theo had taken Heather on a helicopter ride that over looked the city of Manhattan.  How cool is that?  I’m not going to lie that I’m slightly jealous.  What also makes them such an amazing couple is how down to earth and laid back they both are aside from their hectic and busy…very busy personal lives.

What I loved so much about their wedding was how small and intimate it was, especially since it was taking place in a high energetic city.  After our little champagne celebration, we went to the Hudson Hotel and hung out on the roof tops that had an amazing view of the city and the Hudson River.  I also loved that they got on top of a taxi cab in Times Square, and after a scenic walk on the Brooklyn Promenade, the night ended at a darling little Italian restaurant in Brooklyn.

I would like to say that it was  a wonderful time spent in New York with Heather, Theo, Tara, and Dario, and to  Heather and Theo especially, Congratulations!!!  You guys are so great and so awesome and I love you both!!!  Thank you for letting me be a part of your day as well as week and look forward to more evening spent outside with some wine and cheese.

So going back to my wonderful and inspiring trip to Vegas,  my fellow photographer friends, Jenn and Dean, tied the knot in the gorgeous and scenic view of the Red Rocks National Park, just outside Sin City.  This has been my second time to Vegas but my first time seeing the Red Rocks and it was breath taking just like Jenn and Dean’s sweet, simple, and intimate ceremony.  What made this wedding so special was even more photographers capturing every angle and shot of the two them.  It has been so fun going back and looking at each others work.  Even more importantly I’ve walked away with new life long friends who are talented, funny, and sweet.

Jenn and Dean’s simple, adventurous, and down-to-earth personality complimented the blankets of clouds between the mountains in the back ground and their wedding will always be so memorable.   I am so honored and blessed to be a part of such a special occasion with special people.

Dean and Jenn, I love you both always!

On August 29th, 2009, Gretchen and Ryan exchanged personal vows in Williamsburg, MI at the Turtle Creek Casino and Hotel.  Gretchen and Ryan come from Pickney, MI and their plans were to hold their ceremony outdoors on Turtle Creek’s balcony.   Due to the uncooperative weather, their ceremony moved indoors and nonetheless, they remained to have a beautiful and heartfelt ceremony.

Gretchen looked absolutely stunning her wedding gown.  It was so simple and elegant and I could tell just fit her personality.  Both sisters were her maid of honor and both shared funny stories of her growing up.  As for both brothers of the Groom and both Best Men, they shared their undying love towards Ryan.  But the tears didn’t well up for me until Gretchen’s dad stood up to speak.   It just melts my heart when I hear a parent express their unconditional love towards their child especially when it’s from a father to her daughter.  Gretchen’s oldest sister later sang for the couple’s first dance.  Might I say, what a talent and so very sentimental!!  She also  sang another song for both parents of the couple.

What an amazing day as well as evening that I had the honor and privilege to be a part of.
