Early August, I was in Traverse City, MI with my husband and friends for a camping trip. Unfortunately, it was mostly raining the entire weekend. So instead of being couped up in our tents we went to a couple of my favorite wineries in the area and had our own wine tasting. It was wonderful and regardless of weather it was still nice to be outdoors.
Our first place was Black Star Farms. It has a wonderful selection of wine, fantastic cheese, and you can pet the animals. I love that.

Another successful event for the Founders Brewing Company this year as they held their second annual Street Party. It was filled with live music, art, food, plenty of particpants, and of course, Founders specially brewed beer. What a perfect day to be outdoors and enjoy a nice cold one…or two…or three.

About 3 weeks before my race, I was riding my bike. And during the course of my bike ride, I am inches away from running over this baby turtle. I turned my bike around to make sure he’s still alive because he was all tucked underneath his shell. Instead of putting him back in the river he came out of, I shoved him in my jacket pocket like an 8 year boy and proceeded to ride back to my car. I kept him for about a month as means to keep him as my mascot for the triathlon. I named him Kamikaze because he was quick, slick, and crazy like a little ninja. He has currently been released back into the wild.

My niece, Alexis, and her boyfriend, Glen, had their prom Saturday night. They came over for me to get a good look at how stunning they both look. We got a little silly in the studio and then headed to Tassle Park in Cascade to meet up with their friends. Apparently, it’s a popular place to go to since many of their classmates were there as well getting pictures with their dates. How fun is that? Everyone looked gorgeous and I know they were all going to have such a great time. Seeing everyone dressed up reminded me how fun it was to go to high school formals. I’m so happy to have been a part of that for my niece.

This little guy tried following me in the house the other day. He sort of freaked me out and started climbing up the wall in my garage. I did notice he had a bum eye which lead me to suspect he got into a brawl so I gave him some walnuts and left him.
